Macbeth:
House of Cards - In this show Frank Underwood is trying to become President and will do anything to get there. Just like the main character Frank Macbeth murders and lies to get the highest place of power. Macbeth might also like the fact the Frank does not feel guilt, while Macbeth does.

Narcos - In this show Pablo Escobar is a drug lord in Columbia. Macbeth would recommend this show because Pablo Escobar ruled an entire empire just like what Macbeth was trying to do. He would also enjoy all of the murdering that took place to keep the empire, and empathize with having the empire fall.

Ballers - This show, on HBO, is about two sports agents in Miami trying to recruit pro athletes to their firm, but face competition and other problems. Macbeth would like this show because the main characters have a lot of ambition going up against other big name sports agents who get mad when they take their clients. Macbeth would like this because he is also ambitious trying to become the king.

American Horror Story - In the one about the Circus there's a freakshow and they are facing problems in the town they are located in. There is also a evil clown that is killing people, and some of the members of the freakshow kill a cop. Macbeth would like this show because there is death and a supernatural part to it, where a ghost comes back from the grave.

Question #1

I think that people who are not "evil" take the first step to becoming evil for a multitude of reasons. In general what they get out of the evil act outweighs the weight of that evil act they will then have to carry. For instance, Macbeth initially did not think killing the king would be worth him becoming king but Lady Macbeth talked him into it. I would say that some sort of desperation is involved in taking that first step. They feel like there is no other option so the only way they can better there situation is by doing something evil. The internal consequences could be things like guilt or shame because they would not normally do something like that, like Macbeth would have never thought of killing Duncan had the witches not told him what he had to gain from it. After he did end up killing Duncan the guilt led him to doing other evil deeds, like killing Banquo. For this same reason a lot of times when people start doing evil deeds they continue to do them.

Analyze and Interpret: The work of art I chose to analyse was , Armored Garniture,  by Hans Holbein. This piece of armor was made in 1587 in Greenwich. The armor has very intricate gold detailing across its entire frame. This is very small and detailed and hard to see if not zoomed in on closely. It was believed to be made by order for Henry VIII, which would explain the elaborate detail. Since there seems to be so much decoration on the piece it was most likely not made for war or a tournament, but for decoration. In the extra information it mentioned it might have been a gift to a french ambassador. In addition to this piece of armor Holbein created many other works of art for royal members. It can be interpreted his work was well respected. It could convey some of the political climate at the time because it was a gift to the French Ambassador showing that Henry VIII was trying to improve relations.

1. Artist: Hans Holbein
Name:  Armor Garniture
Date: 1527
Material: steel, gold, leather, copper alloys
2. Produced in 1527, Greenwich. The king was Henry VIII was king at the time. Shortly after this piece was created Henry VIII was excommunicated by the pope.
3. The art is arranged on a block of wood. There is detail all along the armor. The form is in the shape of a human. It is a functional piece, used either for wearing in the royal court, or possibly battle.
4. Gift to French Ambassador

Carl's Jr. &Hardee's "Texas BBQ Thickburger" commercial.
Premiered on July 28, 2014
Texas

This ad is trying to make their new product look appealing to the audience so they will go buy it. The new product has BBQ in it which is known for being a southern food. To capture this they put the setting of the ad in a barn and give it a southern feel. This is another attempt to relate to the audience. They also use two attractive girls to add to the visual appeal of the commercial and connect to their audience. In this ad there are two of the seven deadly sins. They are gluttony and lust. The ad shows gluttony in the amount of food. The burger that the women is holding is extremely large, compared to most burgers. Food is actually falling off the burger in a wasteful sense. This excess amount of food can be seen as an example of gluttony. Another example of gluttony can be seen when viewing the the expensive car in the back of the scene. The care is expensive, showing an indulgence in the spending of money. The other deadly sin that can be seen in the ad, lust, is shown through the women in the advertisement. Both women in the advertisement are provacitivly dressed and the appeal is clearly one of the main focal points of the ad. Another visual they use to persuade the audience is when they zoom up on the burger right before the women eats it. This shot makes the burger look visually insisting, which makes the viewer more inclined to buy it,
The audience is people, predominantly southern, who like BBQ and Hardee's. The social and economic background of the audience is large, but because it is a fast food commercial the ad is targeting people who eat at lower end restaurants. It is southern because the commercial was rolled out in southern states. Since it is southern the cultural knowledge of the audience would be shifted more toward agricultural culture, as that is more predominant in the south.

1.) I do not find very much meaning in my first name beyond the fact that it represents myself and my actions. But previous to what I have made of my name, I believe my parents simply liked the name. My last name holds much more significance past representing myself. It represents many of my family members, and is a commonality that we all share. In a sense it brings us together. On top of representing my family it connects me to where I am from. Steinke is a German name, where some of my family comes from. I also just found out that it stands for an occupation, in my last names case, a stone cutter. I now can guess that my family used to be masons of some sort, which I never knew before. I do not think my name defines me. People think of me when they here my name, so my actions define my name. I have not yet experienced any negative situations based on my name.

2.) Just as in Anna Quindlen's case I am "two" within my family. I often want to do something, such as going out with friends, but cant because I have responsibilities within my family. At the time I want to do something that is all I am thinking about, but later I usually realize that my role in my family is more important than the individual role I play. Another example of when I have been part of "two" is on any sports team. I feel like this is a problem with most athletes that play team sports. As a team mate you want, first and foremost, for your team to win. You also want other players on the team to succeed. All though you may want those things there is also an individual tendency to want to be the main part of the team and to have all the success, even if it comes at the cost of losing. This comes back to not being selfish and realizing that the group role is often times more important than the individual.

Handmaids Tale Comparison

Picture: http://www.wingyounghuie.com/p939060484/h19c1e353#h19c1e353
Author: Wing Young Huie
Place of Publication: 3730 Chicago Ave S, Studio B
Date of Publication: 1982

1.) Upon first examination of this photograph the viewer would see a group of people, of mixed genders and ethnicity, sitting on the sidewalk with multiple dogs. The expressions on the faces of these people are mixed. Some appear to be smiling, like the ones looking at the dogs, while others seem sad or are simply staring out into space. The clothes that these individuals are wearing seem to be tattered and well worn. There is also another group of people standing in the background facing the opposite direction. If we look at the bigger picture within the photo it would seem to show how these people are ignored by the rest of society. They are in their own group while there seems to be no one else near them except the dogs. This could show how they have been forgotten.
2.) Both Wing Huie and Margaret Atwood use structure to show the isolate the "others" group. In Handmaids Tale Atwood varies her structure at night portions of the text when Offred is alone. In this picture Huie captures this group of people together but separated from everyone else to show the isolation. However there is a contrast in the color approach to the two texts. Huie uses a black and white image to show the "others", possibly adding to the sense of being alone. Atwood, on the other hand, uses bright imagery and detail to describe the surroundings. This is likely because the setting is unknown to the reader, as it is in a dystopia, and has to be described in order to make sense.
